As often happens at the beginning of the tertiary education year, much has been made in the media recently of student behaviour in flatting situations. It is quite probable that at the beginning of the year there are a number of student parties and some m
ay go for longer and be louder than desired by neighbours.
We believe however that students are generally good tenants. While some may have parties, they shouldn’t all be tarred with the same brush. The vast majority of our tenants, including students, pay their rent on time and quietly enjoy the property and when they do move on they leave the property in a fit condition to be re-let without any additional maintenance or cleaning.
Anyone considering the purchase of a property that may be rented to students should bear in mind that tenants should be selected on their individual merits and not based on their being part of an easily identifiable group, and that properties in locations near tertiary education facilities have low vacancies year after year.
